Surveyor-General Victoria (SGV) runs a Trainee Licensed Surveyor Scheme. This scheme aims to help full-time students complete their degree and develop their professional and personal skills and encourages them to take up employment with SGV.

The scheme is for students entering the final year of a surveying course that leads to a Bachelor of Applied Science (Surveying) degree at RMIT University or Master of Engineering (Spatial) at the University of Melbourne. Each year during this period, students will complete a minimum of 15 weeks of work placement.

The graduate surveyors will be offered full-time fixed-term employment with SGV and enter a Professional Training Agreement with the Surveyors Registration Board of Victoria as a trainee licensed surveyor.

Through a comprehensive structured program, trainees gain experience in cadastral surveying in urban and rural environments, geodetic surveying, survey plan and map preparation and related aspects of Victoria’s major infrastructure projects.

Successful completion of the scheme leads to registration as a licensed surveyor and a permanent position with SGV.
